Radiator 911
NARSA – The International Heat Transfer Association designed a program to test and ultimately certify the repair skills of heavy-duty (HD) radiator technicians as well as the ability of each of their employer’s shops to perform HD radiator repairs. The intent of the program is to inspire repair shop owners and technicians to improve their professionalism and technical abilities.
The decision to create this program acknowledges increased consumer protection regulations, as well as the benefits of professionalism through continued efforts to improve skills and knowledge.
NARSA’s HD Certification is a two-stage process. Stage One, Shop Certification, requires: documentation that the business has been engaged successfully in HD repair; documentation that the business possesses and maintains the necessary equipment to perform HD work; documentation of business permits and liability insurance; and employment of at least one NARSA HD Certified Technician.
Stage Two, Technician Certification, requires documentation demonstrating the applicant has HD experience and the successful completion of a written exam. The written examination covers: safety, cleaning, general overhaul procedures, bolt-up radiators, solder-up radiators, plastic tank radiators, repair definitions and equipment knowledge.
Taken together the shop and technician certifications suggest that a NARSA certified shop and technicians have the equipment and necessary technical knowledge to perform HD radiator repairs.
NARSA has embarked on this effort to certify HD radiator repair technicians in order to increase the professionalism and technical abilities of those we serve.
